With the team starting so well at Napajedla, TBK were all looking forward to the 2nd round of the Czech Cup and the visit of second tier hotshots Frydek-Mistek to U Dolni (and the return Blansko Klobasa veteran Wingy to the ranks, he’d been promoting klobasa and running a school in Oxford for 6 weeks).
In the previous rounds, FK Blansko had seen off the threat of RSM Hodonin by putting together a make shift team ( the rest of the players were on holiday) . The makeshift side were forced to play our keeper David Juran in attack and striker Honza in centre midfield and somehow sneak a 2-1 win to set up a 1st round home tie with MSFL’s HFK Olomouc.
I had to miss the game as I was ground hopping in Bohemia and only way to find out the result of the game was to Facebook Honza Trtilek to ask him how we’d got on. It would have been quicker to have walked to Blansko and found out the result as our Honz doesn’t use Facebook so often and replied the following day… but reply he did and informed me that we’d drawn 0-0 and that David Juran had returned to his position of goalkeeper and saved the final penalty of the shootout to put Blansko into the 2nd round for the first time in their history.
I must say that I like Frydek-Mistek. I have been to the town in North Moravia a few times (Wales played an U21 game their in the 90s) and found the locals to be kind and friendly, but the main reason why it has a place in my heart is because the catering department of the club serve up their klobasa with horseradish.. ohh and it is home to Radegast, a mighty fine beer.
Onto the game, the game attracted Blansko’s highest attendance for many a year and a whopping 550 to U Dolni (including a Daily Mail reader…….say no more). The game kicked off without Wingy as he’d been delayed at the bank/pub and by the time he’d taken his place in the stand the boys in blue were already 2-0 down to a looping header and a smartly taken goal from the Frydek-Mistek number 10.
Blansko quickly pulled a goal back when Peter Coupek’s freekick smashed against the bar leaving Ondrej “He scores when he wants” Ulmann with a simple tap in to bring us to within a goal of Frydek (or Mistek) and the possibility of a glamour tie with Banik Ostrava. However, before the break and after showing signs of sneaking an equaliser, an another mistake from the Blansko defence saw Talian add a third for the North Moravians and the was our cue to join the beer queue for a large glass of Cerna Hora, and then another and another…you get the drift.
We’ll put up the highlights of the game, and although it looks like the media man at the club (Boris) filmed the entire game on his mobile phone -you’ll see that the away team scored a fourth to seal their passage to round 3.
Although heavily defeated the players can take a lot of pride in their performance and if any of the players are reading this, we apologise for singing the name of every player as they walked past us at the bar. We blame Pavel (the Jnr drummer) as he was passing round bottles of slivovice like it was going out of fashion.
– well the performance against a top side.
– The Frydek Mistek team queuing up for Blansko Klobasa
– The reaction of the Frydek-Mistek team when I awarded my MOM award to Martin Pribula. “He only played for 10 mins, you can’t give him MOM.”
– Just the day out.
